By: Jenna Brown on Jul 05, 2018 in ASI Staff Spotlights

Name: Kabir Shahi
Position: ASI Executive Cabinet — Student Rights and Advocacy
Major: Business Administration
Minor: Law and Society
School year: Second
Hometown: Danville, CA

1) What’s your favorite summer activity?
This following summer I will be attending a law fellowship/internship in Madrid, Spain. I will be in Madrid for 28 days meeting with 22 different law firms and sightseeing during the weekdays and traveling across Spain on the weekends. My favorite summer activity is traveling.

2) What's something most people don't know about you?
Even though I am very sociable now, I used to barely talk when I was younger because I could not pronounce my “r’s” or my “sh’s.” I thus took many speech and debate classes to build up my confidence and become a debater, where I qualified to state and nationals during high school.

3) Share your favorite ASI Student Government memory.
I have no memories yet as I have never been a part of ASI prior to this position.

4) If you could create a slogan for your life, what would it be?
Proud, but never satisfied.

5) What's the best place you've traveled to and why?
India in the summer of 2017. I went there to experience a culture shock before college started. I traveled to India with just my cousin and with my families’ help in India, I was able to see the poorest of the poor and get a glimpse of their lifestyle. It was a real eye-opener.

6) If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three items would you bring with you?
A boat, a flare, protein bars.

7) What’s on your bucket list?
Travel the world with my partner, skydive, fly a plane, buy a yacht.

8) What are you most passionate about?
Learning. Anything and everything. I would love to learn about people, history, science, math, a water bottle, how bowls were created, why people act the way they do, literally anything.

9) What do you hope to achieve after you graduate?
A successful lifestyle full of close-knit relationships, a sense of community, a lump sum of wealth, a job that follows my passion and has meaning, and a stable, happy, and productive state of mind. I hope to never be complacent in my life.

10) What advice would you give to students interested in joining ASI Student Government?
Come in with a purpose and a goal in mind. If you could find a position that follows your passion or something that you are interested in, then it will not be a challenge or obstacle to make change. At the end of the day, no matter what you are running for or what you are trying to do, always be yourself!
