A Place for Children to Learn While Parents Pursue Degrees

By: Jenna Brown on Jul 11, 2017 in ASI Children's Programs

While you attend classes and pursue your Cal Poly degree, your child could also be on campus attending one of the most sought after learning facilities on the Central Coast, the Orfalea Family and ASI Children’s Center. Cal Poly students have first priority to enroll their children at the center which provides quality early care and education services to children from four months of age through kindergarten.

The center is currently maintaining a waitlist to enroll new children, particularly in the infant and toddler rooms. Adding your child's name to the waitlist is the first step to enrollment. To add your child's name to the waitlist, contact the Children’s Center and complete an application. There is no application fee for students. All other applicants must pay a non-refundable fee of $5 per child. When an appropriate child care opening becomes available you will be contacted to confirm your placement. Filling out an application does not guarantee your child’s enrollment.

The center is partially funded by ASI fees which are paid by Cal Poly students. Therefore, student parents have first priority for enrollment. Cal Poly faculty and staff receive second priority for enrollment, followed by Cal Poly alumni and community members.

Tuition reflects the teacher to child ratios of each classroom. Specific tuition based on parent classification is available on the Children’s Center Fee Schedule. Subsidized services are available for low-income families and many student parents qualify for this service. Non-subsidized families are required to pay a one-time refundable deposit fee of $600 for each child.

Flexible scheduling is also offered to Cal Poly student parents to meet their academic needs. All parents must schedule their children for a minimum of two part-time days per week. A maximum of 10 hours of care is allowed during a single day.

If you are interested in learning more about the services offered at the center, please visit the Children’s Center website or call 805-756-1267.
