ASI Student Government elections are fast approaching, but did you know you don’t have to run for office to get involved? There are open positions on the University Union Advisory Board (UUAB) from the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, and the College of Liberal Arts.

The UUAB is comprised of one student member from each college including the chair, vice chair, one board of directors representative, and the ASI president or designee. The UUAB chair serves as both the secretary and chief financial officer on the ASI Officer Team.

UUAB members are an integral part of ASI and make policy recommendations to the university president and ASI executive director. The UUAB works to maintain the integrity of the Student Body Center fee which is associated with the operations and programs of ASI managed facilities including the University Union, Cal Poly Recreation Center, and the Cal Poly Sports Complex.

“These are the places where we create incredible Cal Poly memories and it’s so rewarding to ensure these facilities serve our students and support student success,” Vice Chair of the UUAB Kate Granlund said.

To apply to be a UUAB member, visit ASI Jobs between Monday, April 17 and Friday, April 28. Applicants will go through an interview process and will be chosen by the UUAB chair-elect.

Nominations for UUAB chair will be accepted on Thursday, April 20 at the UUAB meeting in UU 219 at 2 p.m. Any Cal Poly student can attend and nominate a currently enrolled student who meets UUAB membership requirements. All nominees are required to complete the UUAB chair application on ASI Jobs. The UUAB chair will be selected by current UUAB members at this meeting.

“Working for the future of Cal Poly on a daily basis has been an incredible experience,” Granlund said. The most rewarding aspect of ASI Student Government is knowing that the decisions you make and projects you work on not only serve students today, but will have a long-term impact that will benefit students five, or even 10 years down the road.”
