By: Jenna Brown on Dec 21, 2017 in ASI Staff Spotlights

Name: Kayla Rivera
Position: Event Scheduling Assistant
Major: Agricultural Business
School year: 4th
Hometown: Encinitas, CA

1) What makes you happy?
The outdoors is the main thing that can make me happy. Having space to breathe, relax, and be still has always been my favorite place in any town I have lived. The best part is that here in SLO there are unlimited amounts of wide outdoor adventuring spaces to visit.

2) What's something most people don't know about you?
Something most people don’t know about me is my love of Excel. I seem to find any way to use Excel for anything: travel plans, to do lists, and budgeting almost anything.

3) Share your favorite memory working for ASI.
My favorite memory I have from working at ASI has to be getting asked to take on more responsibilities. To me, it felt as if my work had paid off and that I was a useful tool to ASI Event Scheduling.

4) If you could create a slogan for your life, what would it be?
If I had a slogan for my life it would be, “You had me at Mexican food.” I will help you with any homework, I will come pick you up from the library late at night, or I will even walk your cat whenever I am offered Mexican food.

5) What's the best place you've traveled to and why?
The best place I have traveled so far has to be Nashville, Tennessee. The southern hospitality, great food, and amazing music made it jump to the top of my list by far. I received this trip for my 21st birthday gift from my mom, and every corner I turned I was receiving love from people I had never met. I was welcomed with open arms to the most hustling town I have been to yet, and I would return in a heartbeat.

6) Where's your favorite spot in SLO?
My favorite spot in SLO has to be the calf huts at Cal Poly’s Dairy. I have a huge love for cows that came about through a course I took for fun here at Poly. I seem to find my way to the dairy every few months just so I can get a new picture for my phone of the youngsters.

7) What's one thing you can't leave home without?
I never leave home without my house key. It would be extremely difficult to get back into my house without it!

8) What's on your bucket list?
One thing on my bucket list is to visit and see every state. I do not count layovers in between flights or driving through. I want to be able to experience each state just like the people who live there do.

9) What do you hope to achieve after you graduate?
After I graduate, I am hoping to find a job with a company that has the same morals and goals that I do. To be able to jump right into a job with a company that I love is something I strive to find.

10) What advice would you give to students interested in working for ASI?
Some advice I would give to students who are interested in working for ASI would be to work hard and get the most out of it. After working with ASI for over a year, I have learned so much about myself, mostly professionally but also personally. I now know what settings I work the best in, I now know skills I never utilized before, and I now know some of my best friends.
