Explore the Alley: A New Space to Study, Lounge, and Dine in the University Union

By: Jenna Brown on Mar 06, 2020 in Campus News

A new outdoor space is open in the Julian A. McPhee University Union! Featuring new chairs, tables, lighting, heaters, and charging capabilities, the area between the Cal Poly University Store, Starbucks, and Chase Bank recently underwent a complete upgrade. The alley has transformed from an open walkway to a new, vibrant space for students to study, dine, and relax.

The alley project is part of a larger renovation to the Mustang Station patio in collaboration with the Cal Poly Corporation. Construction on the Mustang Station patio is ongoing and will feature a fireplace, outdoor TVs, and additional seating.

The University Union Advisory Board (UUAB), the branch of ASI Student Government responsible for making ASI-managed-facility policy recommendations, has been involved in every step of the project to represent the student perspective on the space.

“The University Union Advisory Board thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to provide student input on this project. We are so excited to provide students with the space to spend more time outside,” UUAB Chair Elizabeth Roseman said.

ASI is always working to enhance its facilities to better meet the needs of students and the Cal Poly community. Learn more about current projects and upgrades to ASI-managed facilities by visiting ASI projects. Projects are funded by financial reserves and do not impact student fees.
