Cal Poly Recreation Center Non-Student Rate Adjustment

By: Jenna Brown on Jun 04, 2018 in ASI Recreational Sports

It’s been six years since the opening of the expanded Cal Poly Recreation Center following a student referendum for a remodeled facility with additional recreational space for all students. When voting back in 2008, Cal Poly students chose to increase their own student fees to allow for the expansion and renovation of the Recreation Center we know today. Not only did the building grow in size, but so did ASI’s commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive fitness and wellness locale for participants to recreate, relax, and socialize. Since then, the facility has recorded over seven million entries, and participants have experienced numerous amenities, social and recreational programs, and health and wellness benefits available to students and Cal Poly community members.

In order to operate and maintain the cutting-edge Recreation Center and ensure member rates are consistent with the student University Union Fee, a rate adjustment for non-students will go into effect on Sept. 1, 2018. The current monthly membership rates for non-enrolled students and for faculty, staff, alumni, household, and affiliates will stay in effect through Aug. 31, 2018. The new monthly membership rates and eligibility categories are as follows:

  • Faculty/Staff/Administration/Auxiliary Employees/Non-Enrolled Students: $45
  • Alumni, Emeritus, Household, Affiliates: $50

All membership rates provide access to the facility and all amenities including multiple exercise rooms, state-of- the-art equipment, an indoor track, gymnasiums, racquetball courts, a wide variety of group fitness classes, equipment checkout at The Pro Shop, personal training, an Olympic-size lap pool, leisure pool, beach volleyball courts, recreation areas, relaxation zones, the ASI Poly Escapes Climbing Park, and Poly Body + Being fitness and wellness workshops.

As we move forward, our goal is to keep membership rates competitive while still maintaining the quality of the programs and services offered at the Recreation Center. Non-student rates will be evaluated every two years, taking into consideration the rising cost of minimum wage and facility and program operational costs.
