More Than a Comedian: Adam Devine to Perform at Cal Poly

By: Hannah Avdalovic on Sep 12, 2017 in ASI - Events

Comedian, actor, and writer Adam Devine will be headlining this year’s Welcome Back Comedy Show presented by ASI Events. While his roots are in comedy, after 10 years of touring and acting he has branched out into a well-rounded performer.

Devine’s rise to fame started in 2006, when he formed sketch-comedy group Mail Order Comedy with friends Blake Anderson, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck. After great success both online through YouTube and MySpace as well as on tour, the group starred in Comedy Central’s “Workaholics.” They also all worked as creators and executive producers on the show.

Following the success of “Workaholics,” Devine stared in smaller films including “Mama's Boy” in 2007 and “The Legend of Awesomest Maximus” in 2009. In 2012, Devine landed the lead role of Bumper in the film “Pitch Perfect,” which led him to receive a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Villain. He has since stared in and even co-wrote a number of films such as “When We First Met” and television shows like “Modern Family.”

Devine will take the stage at the Cal Poly Recreation Center Main Gym this Saturday, Sept. 16. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will run from 7 to 9 p.m. The show is free for all students with a valid PolyCard.
