Icona Pop to Headline Welcome Back Concert

By: Amber Olson on Sep 17, 2018 in ASI - Events

On Saturday, Sept. 22, ASI Events and Week of Welcome (WOW) will host the Welcome Back Concert in the Cal Poly Recreation Center Main Gym. Swedish pop duo Icona Pop will take the stage to welcome all Cal Poly students back to campus and kick off fall quarter.

Icona Pop is made up of ‎Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo who met in 2009 at one of Hjelt’s house parties. They decided that night they were going to make a band and were playing gigs soon after in their hometown of Stockholm. Soon after, the duo moved out to London to pursue a record deal and hopefully have their big break into the music scene.

Icona Pop skyrocketed to fame with the release of their smash hit “I Love It”, featuring Charli XCX. This fun party song peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2013 and was even featured on the hit HBO show “Girls”. They even scored the opening spot on One Direction’s 2015 stadium tour, playing to tens of thousands of people each night.

Make sure to catch Icona Pop’s performance on the Main Gym stage in the Recreation Center. Doors open at 8 p.m., so get there early to beat the crowds! The concert is free to all current Cal Poly students with a valid PolyCard. WOW participants should see their leaders for details. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable night!
