Have you ever thought about joining ASI Student Government? This is your chance! The candidate filing period for the 2019–20 ASI president and ASI Board of Directors is now open through Friday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.

As the collective voice of Cal Poly students, Student Government leaders advocate for change, support, and resources to create positive contributions both on and off campus. If elected, leaders will have the opportunity to effect change and create a better Cal Poly for current and future generations of students.

To file for ASI president or the Board of Directors, students must complete a Candidate Packet. The Candidate Packet, including required electronic and PDF forms, is available on the ASI elections website.

Two informational sessions will be held for students to learn more about Student Government and the elections process on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Cal Poly Recreation Center Training Room and Thursday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m. in University Union Room 221. An ASI elections informational booth will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 11 a.m. to noon in the UU Plaza.

The ASI president represents the general student body and acts as the official representative of ASI to Cal Poly administration and the public. The time commitment for the ASI president is in excess of 40 hours per week and starts the last day of spring quarter. The ASI president is expected to be available during summer quarter to fulfill the responsibilities of meeting attendance, in-office work, retreats, and other affiliated job functions.

The board is comprised of representatives from each academic college that serve as the official voice of students and act as the corporate governing board for ASI. Regular board meetings convene every other Wednesday at 5:10 p.m. in UU Room 220. Every Monday, the board engages in working meetings as a tool to facilitate discussions regarding ASI business, events, and campus issues. The time commitment for board representatives is in excess of 10 hours per week.
