Live well, be well with Poly Body + Being

A new kind of class is coming to the Cal Poly Recreation Center! ASI Recreational Sports is proud to introduce the Poly Body + Being wellness program, featuring a new series of free fitness and wellness workshops designed to support healthy bodies and minds. Each quarter, world-class experts in nutrition, diet, and exercise will present interactive classes that all members of the Cal Poly community can experience. Register for the below workshops on ASI Access and embark on your journey to becoming your best self!

Better Balancing You | April 26, 6-7 p.m. in the Training Room

Life can be a true balancing act. Learn to manage food, relationships, fitness, and fun in this interactive workshop with health and fitness expert, Louellen Ferreira. She’ll teach you how to better balance your life and leave you feeling recharged and ready to tackle anything. Stop making excuses and start setting goals in this hour-long class!

Back Strength + Fitness, Level 1 | May 1, 8, and 15 (3-part progressive class), 8:15-9:15 p.m. in Studio 3

Get back to basics in this level one class that will transform your back and improve your strength. Dr. Kirsten Leal will walk you through the anatomy of the back and demonstrate the proper way to exercise without injury. You’ll use stretch bands, light weights, and light bars to move, stretch, and strengthen the area. Participants will also receive a free exercise band.

Diet + Weight Loss, Level 1 | May 2, 12-1 p.m. in the Training Room

Changed your diet but the scale won’t budge? Learn the top reasons why with U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team member, Louellen Ferreira. In this hour-long lecture style class, Louellen will answer any questions you’ve ever had about protein, fat, carbs, and sugar. Learn portion control, dieting tips, and exercise methods that will get you your desired results.

Navigating Nutrition | May 3, 10, 24, and 31 (4-part progressive class), 12-1 p.m. in the Training Room

If you’ve ever felt confused about nutrition, this class is for you. Transform your body and mind in this four-part workshop series with wellness and nutrition expert, Louellen Ferreira. Each hour-long class will build off of the previous workshop, leaving you with measurable objectives and concise action steps to reach your health and wellness goals. Participants will also receive a free food journal.

Shoulder Strength + Fitness | May 4, 11, and 18 (3-part progressive class), 8:15-9:15 p.m. in Studio 3

Ready to improve your strength and transform your shoulders? In this one-hour class Dr. Kirsten Leal will guide you through the anatomy of the shoulder and demonstrate the proper way to move and exercise without injury. You’ll use stretch bands, light weights, and light bars to move, stretch, and strengthen the area. Participants will also receive a free exercise band.

Back Strength + Fitness, Level 2 | May 20, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in Studio 3

Ready for more? This level two class builds off of the ideas and exercises presented in level one. Dr. Kirsten Leal will teach more challenging movements to improve your posture and strengthen your back. You’ll use stretch bands, light weights, and light bars to move, stretch, and strengthen the area. Participants will also receive a free exercise band.
